MALT Announces the Conservation of 110 Acres!
MALT is pleased to announce the completion of a Conservation Easement on the McGrath Family Ranch, a 110-acre property located north of Fairplay adjacent to MALT’s property at Sacramento Creek Ranch within MALT’s Red Hill to Hoosier Pass Priority Area!
The Colorado Natural Heritage Program has identified this area as having important biodiversity significance. The Conservation Easement also protects water rights that feed a small seasonal pond and wetlands frequently visited by the local wildlife residents. In addition to the critical biodiversity protection, this Conservation Easement protects scenic qualities of this highly visible property. Residents and visitors to the area will be able to appreciate ‘classic Colorado views’ from Highway 9 and Sacramento Creek Road forever.
The closing of the McGrath Family Ranch Conservation Easement is the final property to be protected as part of Phase 1 of the Sacramento Creek Project. In total, the first phase of the project has protected 187 acres of the Sacramento Creek Valley and created a wildlife corridor from the peaks of the Mosquito Range to the Middle Fork of the South Platte River. Phase 1 of the Sacramento Creek Project was generously supported by the Park County Land and Water Trust Fund, a county program established in 1998 that “uses revenues derived from a 1% sales tax to preserve, protect, acquire, lease, improve and cover maintenance of water rights, water systems/structures, open space, and wildlife and outdoor recreation resources.”
