Floyd Hill Meadow Celebration

Floyd Hill Meadow Celebration

Dozens of community members, conservationists, recreationists, and partners kicked off Earth Day at Floyd Hill Meadow to celebrate the protection of the 18-acre parcel in Clear Creek County along the I-70 corridor. Representatives from Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT), Colorado Open Lands (COL) and Save Open Lands, Vistas, and the Environment (SOLVE) were joined by neighbors, supporters, and businesses who together worked tirelessly to raise the funds to place a voluntary conservation agreement on the property – protecting the area’s wildlife habitat, natural resources and scenic viewscapes.  Floyd Hill Meadow is adjacent to Clear Creek Middle & High School and visible to millions who travel the I-70 corridor.

Following a ceremonial ribbon cutting, the group pitched in to pick up trash and debris in the meadow.

: For over 30 years, Floyd Hill residents and neighbors vigorously opposed high-density development plans for the meadow, also known for a time as the Homestead Parcel. Along with devastating ecological impacts, the community understood that development threatened access and availability of water resources, open spaces, scenic vistas, and quality of life.

MALT acquired the property, as a donation from Albert Frei & Sons, in June 2023. Following the acquisition, more than one hundred generous donors contributed to MALT’s campaign raising funds to place a voluntary Conservation Easement on the property.
