Floyd Hill Connecting Youth Hikes

Mountain Area Land Trust facilitated funding from partners at Clear Creek County Open Space, Jefferson County Open Space, the Trust for Public Land and Great Outdoors Colorado in December 2016 to acquire 108 acres of meadow and forested area on Floyd Hill. Now open to the public, Floyd Hill Open Space has a Conservation Easement held by MALT and represents the site of future trails that will ultimately open to 12,000 acres of public land and connect to the Peaks to Plains Trail.

Through a “Connecting Youth” grant from Great Outdoors Colorado, MALT is leading hikes for underserved middle school aged children from the Denver metro area to provide opportunities for youth and families to visit farms, ranches, and other protected properties that provide wildlife habitat, open space, and scenic views. The goal of GOCO’s open space program is to increase awareness of conservation around the state and its benefits, particularly to children who are not ordinarily exposed to these areas.
