Colorado X: An Intimate Conversation with India Wood

Meet and hear the inspiring story of the Colorado local who completed the first “ascent” of a 1,500-mile Colorado X by hiking the state’s diagonals.

Join India Wood for a slide show and stories about backpacking her own routes from the southeast to the northwest diagonal in 2020; and northeast to southwest diagonal in 2022.

At age 55, never having met a physical challenge and feeling stuck in her career and marriage, she decided to learn to stand on her own two feet. Her journey was possible because she went “diagonal” as a listening Boulderite with the farmers, ranchers, and ATV enthusiasts who offered help and friendship on a desolate solo trek. Her challenges included early stupidity, plains windstorms and heat exhaustion, route finding through private lands in South Park, a Vail bear with a nose for chocolate, and Teller County desperadoes. Wood stuck to her goal of seeing how nature is doing in this square sample of planet Earth—both the destruction of habitat and hopeful conservation of private riparian lands through organizations like MALT.

Space is limited to the first 40 reservations. Please RSVP to ryan@savetheland.org who will follow up with additional information and details.
