Clean Energy Partnership

In March, Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) was honored to receive a grant award from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to provide technical assistance for MALT’s energy technology systems at Sacramento Creek Ranch (SCR) in Fairplay.

When it was built, SCR incorporated a complex and cutting-edge network of renewable energy systems, including solar panels, geothermal technology, wind power, battery storage and hydropower.  As the systems have aged and technology has changed, MALT needs assistance in making updates and repairs to the energy grid.

Thanks to funding through the U.S. Department of Energy “Clean Energy to Communities (C2C)” program, NREL will provide an in-depth technical partnership with MALT to assess its clean energy systems.  MALT’s goal – with NREL’s support – is to gain an understanding of the innerworkings of its renewable capabilities and enhance the systems to be updated, repaired and fully functional.  The SCR renewable energy systems will then be incorporated into education and outreach programs to demonstrate the importance of sustainable resources and how clean energy works hand in hand with conservation.

MALT is grateful for NREL’s C2C grant support!
